Photographer in Vendee France – Beach Portraits

My world…

A lot of my professional photographer friends would tell you that photography started as a hobby, for a lot of the women in my profession it is also so commonplace that their passion started with the birth of their child that I always cringe when I read it in another photographer’s biography. However, they would also tell you that as photographers who originally grabbed a camera to capture their little ones growing up, they don’t photograph them very often  anymore, as photography becomes a job rather than a hobby…

This summer, we went back to my favourite holiday spot, where I spent most of my childhood summers: Les Sables d’Olonne, in the Vendee in France. The beautiful beaches, the markets, the beautiful architecture, the food, the relaxed atmosphere, the weather… What’s not to like. One evening, I dragged my family to my favourite beach (La plage de la Mine, near Jard sur Mer, a truly beautiful spot surrounded by pine woods with breathtaking views for walkers) for some photos. Working with your own children is always tricky – my littlest made sure this stayed true and completely refused to do anything posed. I didn’t care, I wanted to capture them having fun on their holiday, simply being themselves.

I have come back home to a very busy schedule of newborn photography sessions in Bristol and Bath, along with a pile of editing to do. Logically, my own personal photographs have been relegated to the bottom of the pile. Here are a few, whilst I wait to touch up the whole lot.
